Tap on it to adjust the rest period\u2013\u2013anything from five seconds to five minutes. The selected rest period applies to the specific exercise and is triggered once you mark a set as completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-0216-0217-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15025\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-0216-0217-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-0216-0217-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-0216-0217-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-0216-0217.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, setting the timer for three minutes on the bench press will trigger a 3-minute countdown each time you complete a set for that movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Once it counts down to zero, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/features\/live-activity\/\">Hevy notifies you<\/a> it\u2019s time for the next set.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can set different rest periods for all the movements in a workout, such as longer recovery between heavier sets and shorter rest periods while doing isolation exercises near the end of your session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The timer is <em>optional<\/em>, so you can keep it turned off for certain activities\u2013\u2013for example, when doing movements back to back in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/features\/what-are-supersets\/\">superset<\/a> or circuit or if you prefer to recover intuitively. For instance, you can add 15 seconds of rest at a time if you feel more tired than usual at the end of a set. Conversely, you can shorten the timer by 15 seconds at a time if you feel more energized or are pressed for time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>The Benefits of an Automatic Rest Timer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Monitoring your rest between sets allows you to keep the momentum going, avoid resting unnecessarily long, and be more productive with your time at the gym. Instead of wondering if you\u2019ve rested long enough, you can spend your energy on what truly matters: pushing hard on each set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also set a default rest timer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hevyapp.com\/features\/workout-settings\/\">the settings<\/a> (<strong>Profile<\/strong> tab &gt; <strong>Settings<\/strong> gear icon &gt; <strong>Workouts<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Default Rest Timer<\/strong>).
